Run Story By:

Roger The Sick Prick

Recall after sun down is somewhat fuzzy, add Jellobutt wandering up typically half way through the circle, easily three beers in, and advising of who might be scratching their head later.

It has to be said firstly our benevolent hosts and hares 4x2, Normal & Co pulled off a birthday Bush cracker that was everything but average, a drop start a-b-c-a, a scenic beach front location, scrumptious food, plentiful refreshments on tap and a karaoke machine – note Pussyvirus made the 'banned from all karaoke' list along with all country & western fans, small children and other guys wearing skirts singing 'Are You Lonesome Tonight?' on their weekends – what more could one possibly ask for, fantastic!

Lots of new leg-wear walking around courtesy of Timmytightpants, handy peddler of exotic male running apparel. Noticed Gijoe and Rustyringhole were sporting a pair as were both PV and Ballringer in easy clean luminous yellow. Ready to streak through barbed wire and ankle serrating vegetation and we're all running around on hard top clad in leg armour looking like a right bunch of plonkers.

The Check, must get a mention. If anyone needed irrefutable proof that chugging chemically saturated Thai beer will make you blind, they need look no further. The boozehound red 'X'. There were hashers scattered in all directions, watched Ringworm hit the check and immediately about turn and run off in the direction he'd just came from, it was wonderful, total hashing chaos. From there on in Tampax and I cruised and chatted the last couple of miles together, nice to cool off in the sea after and what a great night.

A Bush Day out by:

Tampax

So the day finally came. I had been looking forward to this particular bush run for almost three weeks already. By the time I arrived at the ‘B’site (the beach house) there were already a good number of people milling around and Ringworm was busy signing everyone up. Parking was no problem for the cars although the bus had some difficulty and at one point got tangled up in some overhead electric cables as it made its way down the narrow lane to the beach house !

All in all, 68 runners signed up for this bush run and after a rather amusing first circle, all clambered onto the bus for the drive out to the A-site as this was going to be an A to B run with everyone hopefully running back to the B-site/beach house and party. Not everyone likes the idea of A to B runs but it does bring an element of fun and mystery to the run. The hares today: Four by Two, Normal and Eat Me explained to us all about the type of paper being used, chalk, back checks and opt out routines for those of us who wished to do a shorter run.

For the rest of us, the long run was 15.8km and the trail took us around a large reservoir staying close to but not on the roads. As usual with the Bush hash, we had the usual athletic types out in front showing us the way forward such as Pussy Virus, Jellobutt, Weedeater, No Meat, Rusty Ringhole and Mrs Head to name but a few. Actually, almost everyone seemed to be a front runner today!  Interestingly, Roger The Sick Prick seemed to be struggling on this day ( probably a few too many jars the night before! ).

After around 40 minutes we came across the bus and water truck and Four By Two. This was the first of two water stops. After a short break and a tempting offer to get back on the bus, it was back out again following paper and again not going too far away from the road. At one point we appeared to run through some poor chap’s living room!!!  Well that was a first for me anyway.

After about 25 minutes we all collected on a causeway were the front runners were struggling to solve a check. People went off in all directions but all eventually returned after being unable to find paper. Finally, after about 20 minutes, someone found chalk marks down below on the road and we were off again. Now and again the trail took us away from the road and into the undergrowth but on each time, the hares had put in back checks to slow the front runners down. This seemed to work very well and for most of the run, the pack stayed pretty much together. By the time we reached the second stop, we had already covered 10km.

The last section got a lot more interesting with the trail taking us well away from the roads and up into the hills with some rather nice trails. Finally, we crossed Sukhumvit road and ran along a dirt track near the beach which took us all the way back to the beach house. I guess most of us were out for about 2hrs and 15 minutes.

Some of us took the opportunity to cool down a bit in the sea before retreating to the beer truck for a cold beer or two. The hares had laid on some excellent snacks with pita bread and some spicy sauce dips. After about an hour relaxing, the circle got under way and just about everyone got their hands on the Bushman and took a turn in the circle. Seaman Swallows did her usual great job of taking the bush photos and pretty much recorded all that went on in the circle as well as doing her other duties such as joint Bushmaster.

After two hours of fun, Jellobutt closed down the bush circle with the hash hymn. An announcement was then made that the bus would stay for an extra hour to allow people to attend Normal’s birthday party. There was plenty of food and beer etc. plus a DJ. Much fun was had here as the hares did an excellent job as hosts. With the launching of several lanterns into the night sky, the bus departed with most of the Pattaya party goers. A few of us however remained behind and stayed at the party for some considerable time.

All in all, this day turned out very well indeed. I for one had a great time and would like to thank the bush mismanagement and hares for a great job and a great party.

Misdirection's: To 4x2's Beach dacha

From Pattaya: Cruise up Sukhumvit Road and into Sri Racha. Zero your Odometer as you pass Pacific Park Mall (Robinson, McDonalds etc). Continue on Sukhumvit for 2 km and begin to slow down when you pass the Km116 marker on your left. As the road bears right note the signs for “Baan Kieng Le” Restaurant ahead. Take the small soi with the concealed entrance on the left with millions of signs to the restaurant and one HHH sign. If you pass Soi 12 and Jua Lee Restaurant, you have gone 100m too far. This soi is actually “Soi 14, Baan Rai Din Daeng / Soi Makaam Moo” but you will only see this sign when you turn down the soi. Go down the Soi, taking a right at “Coral Bay”. Go down the small hill, pass, but do not enter the gate to Baan Keing Le Restaurant on your left and continue bearing left following HHH signs.

From Bangkok: Take the Si Racha Exit from the Bypass, follow the road into Si Racha which is approx 12km. When you reach Sukhumvit Road, take a right at the lights, pass Pacific Park on your left and follow directions as above. Alternatively, if you know what you are doing, get onto Sukhumvit Road heading south from Bang Saen. Keep on Sukhumvit Road passing through Bang Pra. After Bang Pra, Sukhumvit Road goes up a hill and then levels off. Pass the Jet gas station on your right and the Thai Oil gas station on your left. Get over onto the right hand lane just after Thai Oil gas station and the Km 115 marker and at the “U Turn gap, take a right, (rather than the U Turn) into the small soi and follow directions above.

Hare telephone contacts:

4x2 (Noah) Tel +66 81 982 3864

Drivers should park at the Dacha (which is the "B" site). I do not know if the bus can make it down all the way to the dacha. If not, (and we can work that out on the day), then the bus should wait on Sukhumvit Road at Jua Lee Restaurant and the car hashers can walk up the road to the bus. The bus should then go to the "A" site by following me. I will take all the bags in my truck and you lot will run back to the Dacha "B" with a beer stop on the way.

Sounds more complicated than it is!
