REPORT FOR
Run # 79

Run Story By:
RTSP

It looked like the mornings heavy rain might make for cooler running conditions but by three in the afternoon the sun is blazing and humidity is 100%, hot and wet, just the way I like it. Our A-site is Khao Mia Keow, the thick scrubby hills that run from the outskirts of Pattaya up to Khao Kieow.

On arrival it’s nice to see a few fresh faces amongst the usual rabble (unfortunately I don’t recall any of their names). Stories of the Song Khran escapades are being exchanged, Miserable Bastard has been chasing tail in the Philippines, Sheik Me-Me and GI Joe have been on a hash-a-thon in Malaysia and Festering Streaker, in a quest to find his inner child has been solitary kayaking his way around Kho Chang.

Pussy Virus calls the circle and our hares No Meat and Weed Eater give warnings and instruction on the first 5km leg of the run. It’s clearly beyond the attention span of most of the pack, who are waiting impatiently for the words ‘paper starts over there’. We kick off beside the lake and straight onto a back check, down the far side of the lake onto a well hidden second check which congregates the pack. We’re then taken into the scrub on winding cow trails to emerge on the bike track. Up ahead Seaman Stains and his merry bunch of short cutters are caught up by the pack.

The paper leads past a temple and again into thick brush where the paper seemingly ends. Ballringer finds the scent again and calls on-on, his Neanderthal lope giving him a distinct advantage through the thick stuff. A good check again gathers the pack together and everyone clambers up and down a steep thorny hill.

A few tears, scratches and mouthfuls of cobweb later we come out through tapioca fields and onto the water stop. A good first leg, around 50 minute mark. After everyone has shoveled sugar and tanked up on water the hares give out instruction on the second half of the run. Longer (6.2 km), less checks but all good running trails, so they say. As the pack sets out the
Tickler arrives at the drink stop, apparently he’d tangled his sizable soup strainer in the thick undergrowth, caught without his machete he’d struggled for 23 minutes to free himself.

The first check has everyone plowing through pineapple plantations and cow-pats, open wounds and animal feces, hoorah! The running then follows good trails winding through valleys and over hills, stringing out the pack and allowing everyone to stretch their legs. FRB’s are in back at the A-site around the 50 minute mark. All in all an excellent run in beautiful scenery with something for all hashing tastes.
