THIS YEAR OUR MONKEY OUT STATION RUN WILL BE STAGE MANAGED FROM THE SAME
VENUE AS LAST YEAR… PENNY DROPS BEAUTIFUL HOUSE.

THE CHOSEN HASH RUN AREA WLL BE ADJECENT TO DONG PHAYA YEN (THAI ดงพญาเย็น, LIT. JUNGLE OF THE ICE LORD) THIS IS A MOUNTAIN RANGE IN CENTRAL THAILAND AND THE SOUTH EASTERN EXTENSION OF THE PHETCHABUN MOUNTAINS; IT IS PART OF THE DIVISION BETWEEN THE CHAO PHRAYA RIVER VALLEY AND THE KHORAT PLATEAU OF NORTH EASTERN THAILAND. IT HAS A LENGTH OF ABOUT 230 KM, AND IS CONTINUED BY THE CARDAMOM MOUNTAINS TO THE SOUTH AND THE DONGRAK ESCARPMENT TO THE EAST.  THIS AREA IS STILL HOME TO MANY WILD ELEPHANTS!

Needless to say you will not be expected to complete the full 230km.

THIS YEARS FORMAT WILL BE ALMOST THE SAME AS LAST YEAR.

THERE WILL HOWEVER BE A NUMBER OF SMALL REFINEMENTS TO MAKE THE WEEKEND MORE ENJOYABLE AND TO KEEP THE COSTS TO A MINIMUM. See accommodation

  • Some of the costs of the weekend will be subsidized from Monkey funds
  • TRANSPORT - we expect to hire a 35 seater minibus for the whole weekend and will depart early
    Sat morning and return Sunday mid afternoon
  • Travel time to Wang Nam Khieo is about four and a half hours
  • ACCOMODATION - the sign up fee wil not include accomodation

    THIS YEAR YOU CAN EITHER.
    • 2.  OR AS MANY DID LAST YEAR MAKE FULL USE OF THE DECKING AROUND THE HOUSE OR EVEN PERHAPS, BRING YOUR OWN TENT. YOU THEN YOU CAN JUST CRASH OUT AFTER THE CIRCLE OR WHEN THE BEER RUNS OUT. 

YOU SHOULD HOWEVER, REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR OWN SLEEPING MAT AND
 MOSQUITO NETTING (OR TENT)

  • YOUR SIGN UP FEE WILL INCLUDE A LIGHT LUNCH ON ARRIVAL AT WANG NAM KHIEO, A MEAL AFTER THE HASH RUN AND BREAKFAST ON THE SUNDAY BEFORE DEPARTING FOR HOME.
  • ALL SIGN UPS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH A TASTEFUL MONKEY SHIRT.
  • THE MAXIMUM SIGN UP WILL BE 35 HASHERS PLUS 3 HARES
    AND THE HARES WILL PROVIDE FOR THIS NUMBER ONLY.

THE COSTS  -  Until the final budget is fixed the indication is 1000B per head.
This will be inclusive of transport, food, beer and shirt

1200 HOURS              LIGHT LUNCH

1345 HOURS              TRANSPORT DEPARTS TO A SITE

1400 HOURS              Ist CIRCLE

1430 HOURS                ON OUT

Directions to A SITE Pennydrops’ place in Wang Nam Khiao (WNK)

Coming from Pattaya:  At the intersection of Rt 304 with Rt 33 in Kabinburi, continue north on 304 approximately 64 Km to the market/shop area of Wang Nam Khiao (WNK). 

 

Set odometer when passing the police box on the left in the center of WNK market/shop area.  Continue north on 304 for 3.6 Km and make the U-turn.  Return south 0.5 Km and turn left into the busy paved road with a Km marker “59” on the near corner as you approach.  (Maybe an “HHH” sign somewhere, if I remember.)

 

Drive 2.8 Km and turn right into the road that runs along the far side of an open front variety store with a blue roof.  (“HHH>” sign among the resort signs on left side of turn)

 

Drive 1.2 Km on this dirt road (make no turns) and turn right into Pennydrops’ driveway (“HHH>”).  Landmarks:  Penny’s driveway is 100 meters beyond “Starwell” resort on the left, 25 meters short of a large strangler fig tree on left, has a sign with gold lettering in Thai on one side of the drive and a 4-meter high concrete water tank on the other side of the drive.  Follow the drive in and around to the left.  Drop passengers and gear at the house, and park anywhere.  But please do not park in the pass-through driveway.
