Hashers in Kayaks !

Although there are plenty of Kayak rental companies in Thailand, there do not seem to be too many clubs
around where people can just get together with their own equipment and go on Kayaking holidays,
touring trips, or just go for a day out on the water nearby in company !

Klepper Aerius double folding kayak complete with Balogh sailing rig. This model of kayak crossed
the Atlantic in 1956 in the hands of Dr. Hans Lindeman taking a total of 76 days.

Want to take a kayak out to the outer islands? No problem! Put it on a longtail boat

Playing around with the rental kayaks in the Mangroves of Ao Thalayne
near Krabi Southern Thailand.

Ao Thalayne known for it's large
area of mangrove forest and spectacular scenery.

We have a group here in Pattaya who share an interest in Touring Kayaks and trips within Thailand.
We are also Hashers. As can be seen from the photos, we have made several very enjoyable Kayaking
trips upto date and on some occasions used the trips to run on other hashes in the area.

Our group entering the well known 'Canyon' and mangroves of Ao Thalayne.

Our Kayaks are a bit of a mixture varying from folding Kayaks, standard fibreglass cockpit Kayaks
and the latest addition being a plastic Sit-On-Top.

TAMPAX in one of the rental kayaks at thalayne bay.

Ahhh......., time for a bit of a rest !

Beer's all gone, rise and shine, well, maybe tomorrow!!

Our Kayaks are also more or less all designed specifically for touring. They are therefore not as much fun
for other uses such as playing around in the surf not too far away from the beach.  Several of the Kayaks
above are rental Kayaks from the 'Pier' at Ao Thalayne.

Pak Bara Southern Thailand. Around
50km from the Malaysian border at Satun.

WILLY WAX, our most dedicated Kayaker on his beloved folding Kayak!  Note the access hatches used
for storage etc. Not that Willy Wax uses them much as he likes to have a nice light little boat so he can go faster !!!!

Koh Lidee Island around 6km from Pak Bara on the mainland. The red Kayak in the foreground is a plastic sit-on-top
with various water tight storage hatches for dry bags and refreshments and maybe the odd ice cold beer!

The Kayaks we use are around 4.5 meters long with the width varying from 24cm to 29cm. The weights also
vary from a very light 17kg for the folding Kayak to a more clumsey 27kg for the Sit-On-Top !

Koh Lidee. Excellent camping spot with pristine beaches and amenities, showers, etc.

WILLY WAX, just got back from Ko Lidee. Hey, where's your beer mate ?

TAMPAX resting up with a beer after our day trip to
Koh Lidee (shown in the background on right). No doubt Willy Wax will want
to nick one of his beers again !

A spectacular island near Ao Thalayne, approximately one hours paddle from the mainland.
We once camped here for the night and a good
time was had by all.

Spectacular !

TAMPAX ..... I just can't leave this place!! I think I
will stay a bit longer and maybe have
another beer and a pringle !!!!

The mainland is a long way off in the distance from this little Island !

The beach is small but very quiet and peaceful

A day trip to Ralai Bay just south
of Ao Nang near Krabi.
